Shooter Opens Fire at Fla. Police Cruiser Outside Jewish Center

More than one shot was fired at a North Miami Beach police SUV that was near a Jewish center, and the alleged shooter drove away before colliding with another vehicle.

A person shot at a police SUV parked outside a North Miami Beach Jewish center early Wednesday morning, police said.

The shooting of the North Miami Beach police SUV happened at 1:53 a.m. near the Kabbalah Centre, 2725 NE 163rd St., said police spokesman Officer Corey Darden. More than one shot was fired.

Minutes later, police say, the shooter drove away before crashing with another car at Northwest First Avenue and 167th Street. According to police, one of the drivers involved in the crash matched the description of the shooter.

No officer was injured, police said.

CBS News Miami footage showed a North Miami Beach police SUV with a flat tire being towed and a white sedan with front-end damage.

Police did not say whether an officer was inside the police car when it was shot, nor whether the shooter was detained. Police also did not detail whether someone was injured in the crash.
