A self-described anarchist group is claiming responsibility for torching over a dozen vehicles at an Oregon police training center last week.
According to KPTV-TV, the group—called Rachel Corrie's Ghost Brigade—said they started the May 2 blaze at the Portland Police Bureau training facility in an effort to potentially stop police from clearing out a library building at Portland State University that was occupied by protesters. Rachel Corrie was a U.S. peace activist who died from her injuries after she was run over and crushed by an Israeli armored bulldozer that was knocking down homes in Gaza in 2003.
In a social media post, the group said members cut through the training center's fence to reach the vehicles. Then they set 10 fires, and the flames spread to at least 15 vehicles.
The vehicles damaged in the fire were ones only used for training. The Portland Police Bureau has said it has received offers of loaner vehicles from neighboring vehicles.
