Video: Drunk Driver Suspect Fleeing La. Troopers Attacked by Alligator

A man suspected of driving while impaired in St. Charles Parish jumped into a swamp to flee a Louisiana State Police traffic stop and still tried to evade capture after an alligator attacked him.

  • Louisiana State Police say a suspected impaired driver led troopers on a chase after crashing a Toyota Supra near Metairie and later being stopped on in St. Charles Parish.
  • Authorities said Victor Rivas, 40, ran from troopers, jumped from the elevated interstate into a swamp and was attacked by an alligator after wading back into the water while trying to evade capture.
  • Troopers and St. Charles Parish sheriff’s deputies eventually located Rivas with a drone, and he was hospitalized with injuries to both arms before being booked on DWI and resisting charges, while also facing an outstanding Jefferson Parish warrant.
