National Police Week 2025: Check Out Events You Might've Missed
Source Officer.com News
Another National Police Week ends, with another year of honoring the memories of those law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty over the years.
This year, 345 new names of fallen officers were added to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington, D.C. They join the over 24,000 other officers on the memorial, and if it's another year of remembering these officers, it's also another year of the impossible hope that no more names will join them.
National Police Week began in 1962 when President John F. Kennedy proclaimed May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week in which that date falls as Police Week. The memorial service began in 1982 and its growth over the decades is bittersweet; while the outpouring of support is inspiring, it's still heartbreaking to see the number of fallen officers grow.
At that first service, roughly 120 people attended the event. Now, thousands of police and law enforcement officers around the country, as well as family members and supporters and advocates of law enforcement, gather in Washington, D.C.
Take a look at some of the events these past days as National Police Week 2025 ends, and organizers prepare for next year.
