The device disables the truck and trailer by venting the air from the braking system. Once the air is vented, there is no way to get air back into the system to release the brakes until the system is disengaged. Even if someone tries to cut an air line to get air into the system, they won’t be able to drive the truck away because everything is plumbed through the device and again, the air will be vented to the atmosphere. In normal circumstances, SteelSafe is engaged automatically when the driver uses the truck’s parking brakes systems after coming to a halt. It can only be disengaged using a key ring pad or remotely by a code entered via a cell phone or computer from a trucking company office. SteelSafe is housed in a tamper proof stainless steel case that contains the alarm and a global positioning system (GPS) device. The SteelSafe unit can be fitted to any truck, trailer or bus and does not compromise Australian Design Rules.
