The Sheriff’s Police Training Academy, located at Triton College in River Grove, Illinois, is a law enforcement training institutions for police officers. The Academy provides a full-service, 400-hour Basic Recruit Training Program for new Sheriff’s Police officers as well as municipal and other suburban police agencies. The academy 10-week program concentrates on Illinois law, weapons training and proficiency, driving skills, report writing, CPR and First Aid, fingerprinting, basic investigations, physical fitness, and defensive tactics. All coursework is mandated and regulated by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board. Additionally, the Academy provides an 11th week of training to all newly graduated recruits at no additional charge. The course work generally includes certification in use of L.E.A.D.S., Taser, and Rapid Deployment/Active Shooter as well as other blocks of instruction agreed upon by the Chiefs of the attending Departments and the Academy Director.

Cowden has approx. 650 residence, located in Shelby Co. along Rt. 128, we currently have 1 Chief and 2 Patrol Officers.
