Detective Investigated By TBI Pictures Allegedly Show Supposed Improprieties Reported By Nancy Amons POSTED: 7:03 pm CST January 21, 2009 UPDATED: 12:53 pm CST January 22, 2009 CENTERVILLE, Tenn. -- A detective in Hickman County is being investigated for alleged improprieties with inmates. Video: Hickman Co. Detective Investigated By TBI The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is looking into allegations about misconduct involving Detective Kenny Smith and prisoners at the county jail. The TBI first learned of the allegations before Christmas, which is when the Hickman County sheriff got a complaint from some residents. It is unclear exactly what Smith is suspected of doing, but apparently there are photographs involving the alleged incidents. "How far did this abuse go? There are allegations of some pictures, some fondling," said TBI spokeswoman Kristen Helm. The TBI is not saying how many inmates could be involved. When the investigation is finished, it will be sent to the district attorney's office to see if any criminal charges should be filed. Smith has worked for the Hickman County sheriff's department for about five years. He'll be on administrative leave with pay until the investigation is completed.
