Oct. 23--A city police officer was injured Saturday when struck by an automobile in Station Square, leading to the driver's arrest on charges of aggravated assault and DUI.

Colin Matthew Hennen, 27, of Pittsburgh is accused of striking city police officer Edward Polly with his car at 2:10 a.m. in the intersection of East and West Station Square drives.

Police said Officer Polly was directing traffic after two people were shot outside of Club Zen a half hour earlier. One man had been shot twice in the abdomen and once in the hand and a woman had been shot in the leg.

State police troopers Bryan Schutz and R. Shannonhouse were parked near the intersection when they observed a vehicle drive through the intersection without stopping at a stop sign and around another vehicle before striking Officer Polly.

The troopers arrested Mr. Hennen, who police said was not wearing a seat belt and had the strong smell of alcohol. They also helped Officer Polly, who was taken by ambulance to UPMC Mercy with complaints of back and leg pain.

Police said breath samples from Mr. Hennen registered .191 percent blood-alcohol content, with a threshold for drunken driving being an alcohol content of 0.08 percent. Mr. Hennen was charged and taken to the Allegheny County Jail.
