Louisiana Deputy Killed in Cruiser Crash

St. Charles Parish Sheriff's Deputy Jeff Watson died in a four-vehicle crash Sunday night.

A St. Charles Parish Sheriff's deputy died in a four-vehicle crash while on duty Sunday night.

Deputy Jeff Watson was responding to a call for assistance from another officer around 8:45 p.m. on Paul Maillard approaching an intersection when a motorist crossed into his path, according to The Times-Picayune.

Watson's cruiser crashed head-on with the vehicle before hitting another vehicle. A motocycle struck the third vehicle from behind.

The 41-year-old deputy was transported to a local hospital where a was pronounced dead. Two of the other motorists suffered minor injuries while on wact listed in critical condition.

"It is a sad day for the St. Charles Parish Sheriff's Office," St. Charles Parish Sheriff Greg Champagne said in a statement. "Deputy Watson was a dedicated public servant who will be deeply missed by all St. Charles Parish residents. 

The crash is currently under investgation.

Funeral arrangements are pending.
