A Knox County deputy shot and killed a man late Monday after the man shot the officer, according to Kentucky State Police.
The dead man was identified as Jeffery Scott Frump, 44, of Gray.
State police said Knox County Sheriff's Deputy Brian Hensley went to the house where Frump was because of a domestic-violence complaint.
After Hensley identified himself as he stood outside the front door, he heard a shot inside, according to a news release.
Hensley went inside, where Frump began shooting at him, hitting the deputy in the leg, state police said.
When Hensley went back out onto the porch, Frump came out and pointed a gun at Hensley. Hensley fatally shot Frump, according to the state police news release.
Hensley's injury did not appear to be life-threatening, according to the news release.
State police received the call about the shooting at 11:52 p.m. Monday.
