WARRENTON, Mo. -- A Warrenton police officer was injured Friday afternoon when he was hit by a sliding pickup truck as he was checking out an earlier crash on icy Interstate 70 involving another vehicle.
Sgt. Al Nothum of the Missouri Highway Patrol said the officer, who had moderate injuries, was outside his patrol car when he was struck by the truck about 3 p.m. on eastbound I-70 near Highway 47.
The patrol said the officer -- Charles T. Lancey, 32 -- was taken by ambulance to St. Joseph Hospital West in Lake Saint Louis.
Nothum said Lancey was gathering information on a Jeep Liberty which had been seriously damaged when it hit a concrete barrier.
The pickup then struck the Jeep and Lancey, who was standing behind it. The patrol said the driver of the pickup, Michael D. Heyman, 19, of O'Fallon, Mo., lost control of his vehicle on the icy roadway.
