A Border Patrol agent was killed in a rollover crash near Benson, Ariz. Wednesday morning.
Agent Alexander Giannini was traveling with another agent on I-10 shortly after 7:30 a.m. when the single-vehicle crash occurred, according to KGUN-TV.
Both Agents were taken to The University of Arizona Medical Center in Tucson. Giannini was transported by Life Flight, while the other was transported by ground ambulance. Giannini died en route to the hospital.
The five-year veteran of the agency is survived by his parents, sister, and fiancee.
Governor Jan Brewer has ordered that flags at all state office buildings be lowered to half-staff from sunrise until sunset on Thursday.
"It is difficult expressing our thoughts and appreciation for their commitment and dedication to the mission knowing that whatever words we draw upon simply will not do justice to the sacrifices they made," CBP Commissioner R. Gil Kerlikowske said in a statement. "We ask that the citizens of Arizona and the nation join us in thoughts and prayers for the families of these brave individuals."
The cause of the crash is currently under investigation.
Funeral arrangements are pending.
