A University of Texas police officer in Austin was seriously injured Tuesday morning after his service weapon accidentally fired while holstered.
The bullet went in and out of Officer Cory Morrison's right leg after incident occurred in the parking lot of police headquarters around 7:30 a.m., according to KXAN-TV.
Police Chief David Carter said that the officer was standing outside of a patrol car talking to two colleagues inside when his gun went off.
Morrison was transported to a local hospital with serious, but non-life threatening injuries.
He has been with the University of Texas Police Department for the last year and has worked as a law enforcement officer for 14 years..
It is unknown if Morrison was touching the weapon at the time it fired and an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the gun's discharge is currently underway.
