National Fraternal Order of Police President Chuck Canterbury says that President Barack Obama blames officers instead of standing by them.

The leader of the nation's largest police union says that President Barack Obama is out of touch with law enforcement and hasn't taken the time to learn about the risks officers face every day.

National Fraternal Order of Police President Chuck Canterbury told The Daily Caller News Foundation that Obama blames police officers instead of standing by them.

"All we"re hearing from the Obama administration is de-escalate," he said. "That's coming from somebody who has never been on the ground getting the crap beat out of them."

Canterbury pointed to initiatives including the 21st Century Policing Report as evidence that the President wants a kinder and gentler police.

"That's looking at the world through rose-colored glasses," he said. "If I'm on the scene and a suspect has a knife, I can't look at him and say 'The President of the United States wants us to de-escalate so why don’t you put the knife down.' "

The FOP is launching a new campaign titled "Our True Heroes" that aims at featuring positive stories involving officers and will collect stories from the roughly 2100 lodges around the country.
