I don't know about this one. It strikes me as going against training and instinct on how to deal with an active shooter. Self-preservation seems first on the list as it should be, but stopping another officer from engaging? Hrmph.

Fear is fine, even desired...right up until the point it makes you afraid to do your job.

I think he was getting a raw deal unless the facts are not all coming out. But I think the commission heard everything and thought the firing was unjust. So glad he and us have that protection.

Most of us called this one when the original story came out. Congrats Neveaux and good luck.

NOPD officer
Now that Officer Neveaux has been vindicated and will get his job back, frankly I'd tell the city of NOPD to stick their job where the sun doesn't shine. If he does return, he'll never be shown an ounce of respect. Of course, only Neveaux can make this decision for himself.
All too often officer are damed if they do and damned if they don't
Good luck and may all officers stay safe.

His partner sold him out down the river and his colleagues branded him a coward, we are out own worst enemy. Shame on that dept and its officers the way they treated this poor cop who did his job and rendered aid to the victim. Thank god I dont work for the NOPD, you guys down there eat your young it seems.

At last, Due Process wins out
At last and finally, due process is finally applied to LEO's who have to make a decision that runs against the accepted 'grain'. I have never met or know the officer involved. But I have seen more than my share of officer's careers destroyed because they made a decision that was the right thing to do at the moment but 'Monday morning quarterbacked' to death because the Chief/Sheriff/SAC decided that the decision wasn't what they would do. In short, they substituted their ego for the officer's on-the-spot decision. That's not Due Process. It's a rationalized 'monkeynut grab' that puts the Duddly Do-Right image ahead of the real world.

And for those of you who think your stuff don't stink, remember this. There is always more bad guys out there then there are us. Next time it might be your butt out on the clothesline, hanging in the wind. And the 'wheel' does come around.

Good for you, officer Neveaux. You've been vindicated, now get your back pay, keep your nose clean while you scout for a new, better department to work for. When you get picked up, tell NOPD to **** off. When NOPD is in the news for allegedly doing something wrong, I give them the benefit of the doubt and go to bad for them, just like any other PD. I don't think I'm going to do that any more, I really think it's a f'ed up department more suitable in a 3rd world country. It pisses me off that since Katrina my federal tax dollars are probably paying the salaries of those middle-school educated thug d-bags with badges.

Monday morning quarterbacks
All of those officers who second guessed that officer's courage and integrity need to take long look in the mirror. We all know how much "Monday morning quarterbacking" goes on in criticizing fellow officers actions, but NOWHERE in my training has anyone ever said I should rush into a live-fire situation with just seconds to perform a situational analysis. THAT, my friends, is how we end up in the "Officer Down" section.

If he decides to return to work, I believe that he would prove that he was not cowardly. How unfortunate, officers are attacked if they shoot or if they do not shoot.

It was his decision to make. Glad he got the better of a tough system.

Officer Gets Job Back
If this Officer worked for Columbus Ga PD , he would have been Hailed a Hero, cause this department don't want you to do Anything...just take your reports..dont make waves.. dont write tickets, just sit in your patrol car and be visible....that is what I was told by Lieutenants abnd Sergeants at this department..so you can tell what tone that made officers go into... . It eventually drove off all the officers that actually wanted to "police"..you know..be a police officer...and now the department is stuck with SLUGS.
