While responding to a report of an individual trying to walk into traffic, a Las Vegas police officer confronted a suicidal man, and the officer's weapon discharged during a struggle.

A Las Vegas Metro Police officer was shot and wounded Friday during an incident involving a suicidal man, according to a news release.

Officers responded to a report at about 5 p.m. that the man was attempting to walk into traffic in the area of U.S.-95 and Charleston Boulevard.

An arriving officer approached the man, and a foot chase ensued before they eventually got into a physical struggle, the release stated.

During the struggle, the officer's weapon was discharged, striking the officer. The suicidal man was then taken into custody.

The injured officer was transported to UMC hospital, where he was in stable condition Friday evening.

Another officer was injured in a traffic accident while responding to the call and was also taken to UMC with minor injuries.

Metro posted a video to YouTube where Captain Joshua Martinez talks about the details of the incident.
