Introducting a new class of pistol -- the short-action 1911. The Springfield Armory 9mm Enhanced Micro Pistol (EMP) is the first production 1911 designed to shoot short cartridges like 9mm, 40 S'W and 45 GAP. Previously, when 1911s were chambered for short-action calibers, spacers were placed in the magazine to align the shorter cartridges. In order to shrink down the frame and slide of the 9mm EMP, Springfield engineers had to redesign a total of 15 different parts to accommodate the change and enhance the 1911's performance specifically for short-action pistol cartridges.
