DALLAS
--
On Thursday, Dallas Police Chief David Kunkle fired Sr. Cpl. Minh Tran after an investigation by Internal Affairs.
Tran was arrested May 21 during a police investigation on the 2300 block of Lakeland. Tran was later indicted on bribery charges after police alleged he received money from a citizen on at least three occasions.
According to a news release issued Thursday by the Dallas Police Department, "Tran was terminated for engaging in adverse conduct, which resulted in his indictment for bribery, by the Dallas County Grand Jury." Additionally, the document alleged that Tran failed "to follow the policies and procedures of the department when he failed to cooperate with an Internal Affairs investigation."
The investigation was brought about after detectives received information that Tran was demanding and receiving money from a Vietnamese family in exchange for not reporting potential violations of gambling laws, police said.
Tran had been employed by the Dallas Police Department since September 2001.
