TIM HARLOW
Star Tribune, Minneapolis

An alleged car thief who tried to outrun the law could not get away from a police dog that bit him after he led officers on a short chase this morning in Robbinsdale.

Police attempted to stop the suspect after he made a U-turn in a street around 3 a.m. at Oakdale and W. Broadway avenues near North Memorial Medical Center. An officer ran a license check and found that the Oldsmobile Alero he was driving had been stolen out of Champlin on Wednesday, said Capt. Steve Smith.

The driver took off and led police into Minneapolis where he lost control a few blocks later and crashed into a garage on the 3100 block of Queen Av. N. The driver was arrested with the help of a police dog that bit the suspect, Smith said.

The suspect, a 26-year-old male, was taken to the hospital. Two females in the vehicle were arrested and taken to jail, Smith said.
