AURORA, Colo. --

Two Colorado state troopers were injured Sunday evening when a Ford Explorer lost control and plowed into the accident scene they were investigating on Interstate 225.

The crash happened just after 5 p.m. when the SUV lost control, hitting the trooper's vehicle and another SUV on the side of the road.

The troopers were identified Monday as Ron Greasley and Jason Burger. They were taken to Aurora South Hospital with serious, non-life-threatening injuries

The driver of the Ford Explorer, identified by CSP as 30-year-old Edilberto Garcia-Castro, was not injured. He was ticketed for careless driving causing injury, exceeding safe speed for conditions and driving without a valid driver's license.

Colorado State Troopers hit by SUV
People need to start paying attention when driving past any type of activity that is happening on the side of the roads. Be it construction, police activity, disabled vehicle's or animals, anything out of sorts. Somehow along the lines a lot of the public has forgotten that they are not the sole user's of the roads.
The two Troopers hit were not the only one's as a few day's before another Colorado Trooper also was hit while on a traffic stop. Let's be thankful they all are OK.

Only Ticketed?
I wonder if it was just an omission or if the driver was indeed only ticketed and not arrested and forced to post bond?

Just seemed a bit odd to me.

In Idaho now, when approaching a police vehicle on the side of the road with its lights activated, you are encouraged to move to the left into the next lane as long as it is safe to do so. I believe there are other states that require a driver to do the same thing. It's a good idea. I would think that if it was an accident investigation scene, there would have been appropriate warnings for oncomming motorists to slow down and use caution. So ya, I do think he probably should have been arrested and forced to bond or sit in jail. I think it was just an illegal who didn't have any regard for anyone else on the road.

Ive seen it happen. People need to pay attention to what they are doing, mind their freakn business and not worry about the pretty red and blue lights. Its like mosquitoes to an bug zapper.

The SUV did not lose control and crash, the driver lost control and crashed.

I don't believe it, a racist cop.

That guy shouldn't have been on the road period.

His Spanish sur-name doesn't automatically make him Mexican.

You're right, he may not be Mexican. But my statement is hardly racist. I have not come into contact with more than a handful of Hispanic people who actually have a driver's license and insurance. The LARGE MAJORITY of Hispanic's that I have come into contact with do not have driver's license and/or insurance on the vehicles they drive.

That is not racist, it is a fact. I live in a large metropolitan area where there are alot of Hispanic's. So my sarcasm in my earlier post is from experience not a personal viewpoint.
