The U.S. Coast Guard and deputies from Tangipahoa Parish rescued two boaters who were stranded Friday in a marshy area near Lake Pontchartrain.
Coast Guard rescuers based in New Orleans got word at 6:30 a.m. Friday that two boaters who had been on the water near the lake hadn't returned home as expected, according to a Coast Guard news release.
In response, the Coast Guard sent out a Jayhawk helicopter crew and a response boat to the area.
Once over the area, the helicopter crew located two people and their disabled 18-foot flat-bottom boat in what video showed was a marshy expanse near open water.
A boat crew from the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office also arrived on the scene and coordinated with the Coast Guard helicopter, who dropped a rescue swimmer to help the two boaters get to the nearby Sheriff's Office vessel.
The Coast Guard said that sheriff's deputies took the boaters back to shore and that they were reported to be in stable condition.
