Much of the equipment used by those in law enforcement relies on rechargeable batteries, including two-way radios, laptop computers, flashlights, cell phones and PDAs. Once these batteries no longer hold a charge, they should be recycled. Call2Recycle, the Rechargeable Battery Recycling Corporation (RBRC) is a nonprofit, public service organization dedicated to rechargeable battery recycling. Police precincts, firehouses and emergency rescue departments incur no cost to participate in the program – everything from enrollment to the collection containers, freight, processing and actual recycling is free. RBRC assists with the set-up and management of the program and provides streamlined procedures for returning the recovered batteries to the recycling facility.
