Wash. Deputy's Cruiser Intentionally Rammed Multiple Times by Pursuing Driver

A Yakima County sheriff's deputy called for backup after realizing a driver was intentionally ramming her patrol cruiser, striking the vehicle multiple times during a dangerous pursuit.

What to Know

  • A Yakima County sheriff's deputy was targeted and rammed multiple times by a driver who repeatedly struck the patrol cruiser from behind during an early-morning pursuit.
  • The deputy activated her emergency lights and called for backup after realizing the collisions were intentional, but the suspect continued chasing and striking the cruiser.
  • A 20-year-old woman was later arrested and is accused of assaulting an officer while resisting arrest; she faces four counts of first-degree assault and other charges.
The suspect continued to chase the deputy at a high rate of speed, hitting the cruiser from behind a third time.

Once they entered Yakima and crossed a bridge, the deputy was struck again, and her cruiser began to slide. It struck a concrete, but the deputy regained control.

With the suspect still chasing her, the deputy pulled over on the side of the road and got into a defensive position outside her cruiser. That's when the suspect turned around and fled the scene.

It's unclear if the deputy was injured in the collisions. Her cruiser, however, was partially disabled.

Later, Moxee police and deputies found the suspect in Terrace Heights, and she struck an officer in the face while resisting arrest. She faces four counts of first-degree assault, third-dregree assault—officer and other charges.
