What is 2020 Station Design Conference?

Is it possible to design a police station for today that will last at least the next 50 years? Yes, according to award-winning architects who specialize in public safety design.

The 2020 Station Design Conference is designed to focus on current and future needs of law enforcement stations and facilities for emergency response agencies. Increasingly, safety and security, all-hazards incidents, coordination of multiple agency response, financial restrictions and/or increased environmental issues, demand law enforcement and municipal leaders research the options before investing in a new facility. The 2020 Station Design Conference brings together subject matter experts in designing these structures as well as public safety visionaries in anticipating needs for training, security and safety.

At the request of previous law enforcement conference attendees, the 2020 Station Design Conference will include a full Law Enforcement track, presented by LE design specialists and end users. The presentations target police chiefs, officers, project managers and municipal leaders planning or building new stations or facilities across North America. Attendees are not restricted to the LE track but can select classes from three other educational tracks, fire, training centers and shared facilities, to best fit the needs of their department or agency.

The Station Design Conference will help you build the most effective emergency response facility for your department and community.

Who attends the 2020 Station Design Conference?

A majority of attendees are members of emergency service departments tasked with building or renovating a facility for police, fire, EMS, training, dispatch and/or shared usage. City and county administrators responsible for budgeting or other financial issues, as well as architects that are, or plan to be, involved with a growing police department or district, will often attend. Presentations will specifically deal with basic design and construction, but also threat mitigation, alternative procurement, how to develop an RFQ/RFP, and more of the issues to build your confidence in this process.

LE Programs for the 2020 Station Design Conference include:

  • Designing Fire/Police & Public Safety Facilities for a Changing Climate and Sea Level Rise

  • Operations-Based Design: Planning and Building your Most Effective Police Station

  • LE Facilities: Threats & Hazards

  • CALEA and your Police Station: What you Need to Know

  • Evidence Storage & Processing

  • Designing Interview Rooms

  • Police and Dispatch

  • Designing space for Forensics

The conference also offers a pre-conference session for you to speak 1-on-One with an architect who specializes in law enforcement facilities for an unbiased second opinion.
