Ill. Deputy Suffers Minor Injury in Accidental Shooting

A Cook County sheriff's deputy suffered minor injuries to his foot after an accidental shooting at the Cook County Jail's administration building.

A Cook County sheriff's deputy suffered minor injuries to his foot after an accidental shooting at the Cook County Jail's administration building, officials said.

The deputy was injured a little after 3 p.m. in Building 1 at the jail in the 3000 block of South California Avenue when a service weapon discharged, according to Cook County sheriff's spokeswoman Kara Smith.

The deputy was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, according to the Fire Department.

The sheriff's department said it was investigating how the shooting happened.

The deputy's age and length of service with the department were not available.
