A Madison County Sheriff's Office corrections deputy suffered a laceration to his right arm when he was assaulted by a jail inmate with a shaving razor.

WAMPSVILLE, N.Y. – On Sept. 11, around 11:50 p.m., members of the Madison County Sheriff’s Office Road Patrol were dispatched to the Madison County Jail regarding an inmate assaulting a corrections deputy with a weapon.

Upon arriving on the scene, deputies learned that inmate Sean Quinn, 36, of Bridgeport, had assaulted a corrections deputy with a shaving razor. As a result of the assault, the involved corrections deputy suffered a laceration to his right arm. The corrections deputy was transported to Oneida Hospital for treatment of his injury and has since been released.

“The suspect attempted to use a razor during the assault but was unable to remove the blade from its plastic case beforehand and that minimized the damage,” Madison County Sheriff Todd Hood said. “The deputy had cuts on his right elbow and right forearm. The damage was lessened, but it was still a violent attack. It’s always the case when any object is used to inflict damage.”

Following an investigation into the incident, authorities charged Quinn with the following offenses:

  • one count of second-degree assault, a class D Felony.
  • one count of fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a class A misdemeanor.

Quinn was transferred back to the custody of the Madison County Jail, where he is awaiting arraignment in CAP court on the new charges.

Quinn is in jail on a bevy of charges related to a July 29 incident. On that date around 2:30 p.m., deputies were dispatched to a residence in the town of Sullivan. Upon investigation, deputies found that an adult female victim had allegedly been approached by a male subject who forcefully attempted to remove her bathing suit, and proceeded to forcefully touch her, causing injury to the victim.

Authorities identified the suspect as Quinn. Deputies took Quinn into custody without incident. Following a subsequent investigation into the incident, Quinn was charged as follows:

  • one count of second-degree aggravated sexual abuse, a class C felony.
  • one count of first-degree sexual abuse, a class D felony.
  • one count of second-degree assault, a class D felony.
  • one count of third-degree assault, a class A misdemeanor.
  • one count of forcible touching, a class A misdemeanor.

“This was a horrible, violent crime, the kind of case that can test law enforcement,” Hood said at the time. “The suspect is a very bad man and now he’s off the streets and in jail.”

Authorities transported Quinn to the Madison County Jail for arraignment in CAP Court. Following the arraignment proceeding, authorities remanded Quinn to the custody of the sheriff’s office on $100,000 cash bail, $300,000 bond or $750,000 partially secured bond.

The sheriff’s office was assisted in the investigation by the New York State Police and Madison County EMS. The Madison County Sheriff’s Office asks that any persons with knowledge of the aforementioned incident contact Investigators at 315-366-2311.

“We are seeking other potential victims or other law enforcement agencies, whether Quinn has been involved in other crimes,” Hood said.
