A Unified Police Department of Greater Salt Lake officer who was wounded in a fatal shooting last year was found dead in his home over the weekend.

Officer Jon Richey had previously recovered from gunshot wounds in both legs after Cory Lee Henderson shot him and killed fellow Officer Doug Barney on Jan. 17, 2016, The Salt Lake Tribune.

The Salt Lake City Police Department was investigating the incident after Richey was found dead Saturday and officials said there were no indications of foul play. A medical examiner would determine Richey's cause of death. During a press conference on Monday, Salt Lake County Sheriff Jim Winder told reporters that Richey's death is not believed to be a suicide.

Lt. Brian Lohrke said the department is heartbroken over the latest death of a colleague. Unified Police Detective Brooks Green, Detective Brian Holdaway, and Richey have all died within the last month.

"Although we deal with tragic loss as a part of our everyday service, it is obviously more impactful when it is one of our own," he said in a statement.

Richey graduated from high school in 1982 and became the youngest police officer in Utah in 1984 at the age of 19. He worked in four police departments and trained and handled six police dogs, most recently a bloodhound named Molly.
