The department described Marrero as a decorated officer who “was currently serving as a background investigator, but he had previously served with distinction in a variety of assignments, including patrol, marine patrol, and as a school resource officer, an auto-theft investigator and a homicide detective,” according to detective Ernesto Rodriguez, the police department’s spokesman.

“Detective Marrero was a consummate professional who always excelled in his assignments,” Rodriguez added. “Revered as a leader among his peers and supervisors alike, Larry will be truly missed.”
