LOS ANGELES -- Newly released videos from a police-involved shootout last month shows a suspect suddenly open fire on LAPD officers.
LAPD Gang Enforcement Division officers spotted a white BMW roll through a stop sign, turning left and then speed ahead on April 20 at approximately 9:20 p.m., according to officials in a recorded Critical Incident Video.
The department-issued video was compiled from the officers' bodycam videos and neighborhood surveillance videos and posted on the LAPD's YouTube page.
Following a short pursuit, the driver suddenly stopped and exited the car, then ran with a gun into the Pueblo Del Rio public housing project in the Central-Alameda neighborhood.
The two officers pursued the driver on foot, but then, a second man wearing in a white shirt, who was later identified as Curley Duff, is seen approaching Officer Enrique Trujillo.
Duff pulled out a handgun from his waistband and shot at Trujillo, who then returned fire. Both men were injured in the gunfire.
Prosecutors charged 39-year-old Duff with the attempted murder of a law enforcement officer.
The incident is currently under investigation.
