Virginia Police Sergeant Dies After Suffering a Medical Emergency On Duty

FAIRFAX, Virginia -- A Fairfax City Police sergeant died after suffering a medical emergency while on duty on New Year's Eve.
Sgt. George Moskowitz was on the job Tuesday when he fell ill and was later pronounced dead, according to WJLA-TV.

Moskowitz was an 8-year veteran with the Fairfax City Police Department after retiring from a distinguished 25-year career with the Fairfax County Police Department. He started out as a patrol officer, then held the position of school resource officer.
In 2016, Moskowitz was promoted to the rank of sergeant and acted as a supervisor for the Fairfax City Police midnight patrol squad, then daywork patrol and ended up in his last position as sergeant of the Fairfax City Police Department's Community Services Division.
Fairfax City Police wrote in a statement that Moskowitz was an overall amazing person, a mentor, role model, and "genuinely nice guy."
To honor the fallen officer black bunting and a police cruiser has been placed outside of the Fairfax City Police headquarters.
Funeral arrangements are pending.
