Baltimore Police Sergeant Returns to Full Duty a Year After Shooting

Sgt. Bill Shiflett, who was severely wounded in a shooting at a at a methadone clinic, returned to full duty Wednesday.

BALTIMORE -- A Baltimore police officer who was severely wounded in a shooting at a at a methadone clinic last year returned to full duty on Wednesday.

Sgt. Bill Shiflett was shot under his vest before the suspect was killed by responding officers inside the Man Alive clinic in the 2100 block of Maryland Avenue on July 15, according to WJZ-TV.

Baltimore Fraternal Order of Police President Mike Mancuso announced on Twitter that Shiflett was back to "full duty" with the Baltimore Police Department.

“After a year of brutal rehabilitation, I am proud to announce that Sgt. Bill Shiflett is back to full duty. Bill did a great job fighting his way back and his family deserves a tremendous amount of respect and gratitude for all the support and sustenance they provided him during this difficult time," Mancuso said in a statement. "Welcome back. Bill!"

Shiflett has been a member of the Baltimore Police Department since 1994 and is assigned to the Northern District.
