Officer Down: Trooper Chad Walker

TEXAS-Trooper Chad Walker, of the Texas Department of Public Safety-Texas Highway Patrol, died March 31, 2021 from injuries sustained on March 26, 2021. 

On March 26, 2021, Trooper Walker was ambushed while he stopped to assist what he believed was a disabled vehicle. As he pulled behind the car, the driver opened fire, shooting the Trooper's patrol car. Trooper Walker was struck in the head as well as the abdomen and the driver fled the scene. The Trooper was kept on life support until March 31, 2021 when his organs were donated.

Trooper Walker served with the Texas Highway Patrol for six years and served in law enforcement for 18 years. Prior to the Texas Department of Public Safety, he served with the Groesback Police Department, the Athens Police Department, the Henderson County Sheriff's Office, and the Limestone County Sheriff's Office. 

He is survived by his wife and children.
