WASHINGTON, D. C.- Police Officer William "Billy" Evans, of the United States Capitol Police, U.S. Government, died April 2, 2021. Officer Evans was struck by a vehicle; the driver of the vehicle was attempting to breach a barricade at the U.S. Capitol.
Officer Evans as well as other officers were stationed at an access point near Constitution Ave. The driver drove into Officer Evans and another officer purposely. The driver then exited their vehicle and attempted to attack police officers with a knife. The driver was shot and killed.
Officer Evans was taken to a hospital near by where he succumbed to his injuries. He served with the U.S. Capitol Police for 18 years.
