A South Carolina police chief and several officers have resigned from their department, according to town officials, who described it as a "time of turbulence."
In a letter to residents about the development, Pacolet officials said they found out about the “imminent resignation” of the police chief, a lieutenant and multiple officers on Sept. 1, WHNS-TV reports. Officials have asked for help from the Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office to provide coverage while the town tries to figure out how to proceed.
“Citizens of the Town of Pacolet should expect and rightfully deserve continuous coverage and access to quality law enforcement service,” the letter stated. “The Town of Pacolet will take this opportunity and time to seek quality law enforcement professionals. We ask that the citizens of the town of Pacolet understand and trust that we the Town Council and Administration will do our very best to remedy this situation as soon as possible and with a positive end result.”
The exact number of and the reason for the resignations were not detailed in the letter.
