Teen with Rare Disorder Lives Out Dream as Calif. Police Officer for a Day

April 25, 2024
The Willits Police Department hosted a "Cop For a Day" event for a 15-year-old girl with "a rare disorder which limits her mobility," who arrived in uniform and "ready to hit the streets."

The Willits Police Department recently gave 15-year-old Eva a day as a police officer, which is a job the teenager "has aspired to (and she) loves interacting with our officers, who love seeing and talking with her around town."

In a recent Facebook post, the WPD said it hosted Eva as a "Cop For a Day" after learning that she wanted to join "our police force. It is a great honor that such a kind, loving, and inspirational young woman would look to the Willits Police Department to spread her joy. Eva's application as a Junior Police Officer was accepted and she began her patrol duties."

Describing the teen as suffering from "a rare disorder which limits her mobility" but does not impede her will, the WPD reports that she "arrived in full uniform and ready to hit the streets, (riding) passenger with Officer Gale, spending much of the day "spreading her joy by waving at everyone (and) letting people off with a stern warning."

However, the teen did assist "Officer Gale with a traffic stop in front of the Willits Justice Center, and after contacting the driver and occupants, Eva believed the best course of action was to issue a traffic ticket."
