Los Angeles Wildfires: R.I. Police Force Starts Drive to Help LAPD Officers

Jan. 23, 2025
The Warwick Police Department has started a campaign to help over 20 LAPD officers who have lost their homes and belongings in the wildfires that have ravaged southern California.

A Rhode Island police department is doing what it can to help fellow officers who have lost their homes in the wildfires that have ravaged southern California this month.

The Warwick Police Department reached out to the LAPD to see how the fires in the Los Angeles area had affected its West Coast counterpart. Over 20 LAPD officers had their homes destroyed and lost their belongings because of the wildfires, prompting the Warwick police force to start a campaign to support their colleagues.

"We are collecting gift cards to help provide them with some relief during this challenging time," a department social media post stated

From now until Feb. 10, the department is asking for donations of gift cards from local and online retailers that LAPD officers can use to buy necessities. Donations can be dropped off at police headquarters or mailed to the following address:

Warwick Police Department

Attn: Sgt. John Zaborski

99 Veterans Memorial Drive

Warwick, RI 02886

"A member of the Warwick Police Department will hand-deliver these gift cards to LAPD officers in February, showing solidarity and compassion for our brothers and sisters in blue" the department stated. "Let’s come together to show our support in these difficult times."

The Warwick Police Department's campaign isn't the only way people can help LAPD affected by the wildfires. The following organizations are accepting donations and support for police:
