City of Houston and PropertyRoom.com Work Together To Earn More For Surplus Fleet & Vehicles

Aug. 6, 2015
Weekly online auctions for used municipal vehicles.

Each month the City of Houston has approximately 75 to 100 fleet and other municipal vehicles available to be auctioned. The proceeds from these auctions go directly back to the City of Houston’s general fund and support everything from education to road improvements and lead to lower taxes.

In the past the City of Houston would run live, on site webcast auctions a couple of times a year which would be offered to a limited and local customer base. They began looking for a new solution to take the work load off of the City of Houston and take their auctions online and international – greatly increasing their customer base and in turn, their proceeds.

The Houston Police Department currently uses PropertyRoom.com for their Property & Evidence Disposition where they offer unclaimed, seized and stolen goods up for online auction. This legal requirement for surplus Property & Evidence assets also helps send proceeds back to the city itself.

“In addition to serving the Houston Police Department for years with our online auction services, we are excited to now assist the City of Houston with their surplus fleet and vehicles,” said Donald Nemer, SVP of Sales at PropertyRoom.com. He continues “PropertyRoom.com is an awarded contract vendor from the National Joint Powers Alliance (NJPA.) The City of Houston was able to utilize this contract and meet the requirements for their Request For Proposal process, as well as find the best solution for their needs.”

PropertyRoom.com’s online auction platform and services offers a haul away full service feature which is essential due to limited space for storage of vehicle assets. Hauling away vehicles and equipment from a City-owned site not only reduces liability and risk; it also allows employees to focus on their core jobs and not have to handle the details of auctioning vehicles.

"We had been looking for a better solution for auctioning our surplus fleet vehicles, and PropertyRoom.com’s full service model fit our needs. We could not be happier with the choice. The roll out went smoothly, they are selling our vehicles quickly, and the city is making more money," says Frank Carmody, Deputy Director of Administration and Regulatory Affairs for the City of Houston.

“NJPA’s cooperative contract purchasing program establishes and provides nationally leveraged, competitively-solicited solutions for use by schools and government agencies nationwide,” says Kelly McAllister of NJPA. “We are proud to be able to help the City of Houston to find a solution to meet their needs with PropertyRoom.com.”

Fleet and vehicle auctions from the City of Houston are now up for auction on http://www.Copart.com, PropertyRoom.com’s subcontractor.

Mr. Nemer continues to say, “Our unique online auction platform and services are designed to not only provide top notch service for the cities, municipalities and agencies we serve, but also provide a great deal for the everyday consumer looking for used vehicles and equipment. We are happy to be able to provide both of these for the City of Houston.”

On behalf of law enforcement agencies, municipalities and commercial clients, PropertyRoom.com markets and auctions seized, unclaimed and surplus assets. Goods for sale cover a wide range, varying from tablets, TVs and smartphones to collectible coins, luxury purses, watches and jewelry.
