The Memphis Police Association is proud to announce that we have affiliated with the International Union of Police Associations, AFL-CIO, (I.U.P.A.) to enhance our service to the police officers we represent and the communities we serve.

The I.U.P.A. was chartered in 1979 and is the only affiliated union exclusively representing America’s Police personnel. Their membership consists of more than 100,000 active duty rank and file law enforcement professionals from throughout the country as well as in Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

In commenting on the decision to join the ranks of the I.U.P.A., Memphis Police Association President, Michael Williams stated, “We chose to affiliate with the I.U.P.A. to bring greater strength and resources to our organization. I.U.P.A. is comprised of and led by active duty law enforcement officers. They provide unparalleled legal protection and a well-respected voice in our nation’s capital. They also maintain a Research Department that can provide wage and benefits surveys that can be invaluable during negotiations. In addition, the I.U.P.A. administers a Law Enforcement Officer’s Relief Fund that can provide financial assistance to peace officers following catastrophic events. We look forward to a long and productive relationship with them.”

Originally chartered in 1979, the International Union of Police Associations is the only chartered labor union that exclusively represents law enforcement personnel. The more than 100,000 law enforcement personnel represented by the I.U.P.A. are all full time employees of law enforcement agencies ranging from line officers up to first line supervisors as well as civilian employees. The I.U.P.A.’s mission is to protect and advance officers’ wages, benefits, and work conditions. Membership includes officers from agencies throughout the United States, U.S. Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico. More information is available at www.iupa.org.
