OFFICER Magazine Announces 2022 Station Design Award Winners
Nashville, TN, Dec. 6th, 2022— OFFICER Magazine announced the winners of its third annual Officer Station Design Awards (OSDA) program, which recognizes outstanding architecture and design from law enforcement and public safety facilities nationwide.
Gold, Silver and Bronze awards were issued across five categories of facilities in this prestigious competition: LE Facilities 1, 2, and 3 (by size); Training Facilities and Public Safety Centers. All 12 participating entries will be published in the November/December issue of OFFICER Magazine and online at Officer.com
“The Officer Station Design Awards brings the best in station, public safety and training facility designs to departments across the country and helps our readers to prepare and plan for these long-term projects that become the center of the community for decades,” Frank Borelli, the editorial director for OFFICER Magazine, said. “The awards help our readers to be aware of the latest trends and design concepts that increase efficiency and safety in all law enforcement buildings. Whether an agency is building an entirely new station or renovating an older structure for contemporary use, there are valuable lessons to be learned from the designs that win these awards.”
Janet Wilmoth, special projects director for Officer Media Group, noted each 2022 OSDA entry introduced several new trends for law enforcement facilities.
"The trends in the 2022 Officer Station Design entries focus on the health and safety of law enforcement personnel. The emphasis this year included increased natural lighting to support mental health. Safety factors included exterior concrete barriers for buildings and secure parking areas for police cars and personnel vehicles. Looking ahead, future growth was designed into most facilities," Wilmoth said. “Personnel must be able to begin and end their shifts from a secure and healthy facility.”
Wilmoth added, "Law enforcement responsibilities and challenges are rapidly changing. Each new facility in the 2022 OSDA is a winner for its personnel and the community they serve.”
Winners were selected by a panel of four judges, including a 2020 OSDA award-winning police chief, a sergeant currently involved in the construction of a station, and two architects specializing in law enforcement design.
