A man suspected of shooting someone in Dallas late Sunday escaped from police headquarters after he was taken there for an interview with detectives, law enforcement officials said.
Josue Aguilar Murillo, 26, is back in custody after he was found in the 3200 block of Fort Bend Drive in Pleasant Grove, about 9 miles east of Dallas police headquarters, police officials said. It was unclear whether he has an attorney.
Officers responded to that same location earlier after reports of a shooting about 10:10 p.m., police spokesperson Corbin Rubinson said. The person who was shot was taken to a hospital and is listed as stable, Rubinson said.
Investigators suspected Aguilar Murillo, and said he and the person know each other.
Police brought Aguilar Murillo to headquarters for an interview. He was later seen running from the building, Rubinson said. He was found about 3:45 a.m.
Rubinson would not answer The Dallas Morning News’ questions about how Aguilar Murillo escaped and whether any officers involved are being investigated.
“We are not able to comment on internal investigations,” he said. “The circumstances surrounding the suspect’s escape are part of the ongoing investigation.”
Officers from across the city were sent to look for Aguilar Murillo early Monday, according to internal communications obtained by The News.
Aguilar Murillo was booked into the Dallas County jail about 6:30 a.m. on aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and escape while arrested charges, jail records show. He also has an immigration hold, according to the records, which did not specify any additional details.
Aguilar Murillo remained in jail Monday afternoon. His bail amount had not yet been set.
