An Indiana police officer who was critically wounded a week before she was to be married was able to see that dream come true, even though she has been hospitalized since a shooting earlier this month.
Richmond Police Seara Burton tied the knot with her fiancée, Sierra Neal, in an unofficial wedding ceremony Saturday at the Dayton, Ohio, hospital where she has been fighting for her life following an Aug. 10 shooting, WTHR-TV reports. A video from the ceremony was posted to TikTok, and it shows Neal in her wedding dress as she "walks down the aisle" toward Burton's hospital room. Before the shooting, the couple's wedding had been set for Aug. 19.
"This walk was supposed to look a lot different, but I will always be thankful we still got to celebrate," Neal wrote in a post accompanying the video. "Even if it is not legal on paper, you are my wife. I love you Seara."
Burton was critically wounded in an exchange of gunfire at close range during a traffic stop. The accused gunman—Phillip Lee—faces three counts of attempted murder, as well as unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon and other charges.
