Louisville Bank Shooting: Wounded Officer Moved to New Hospital

April 21, 2023
Louisville Police Officer Nickolas Wilt is still in critical condition, and the rookie officer developed pneumonia over a week after he was shot during a gunman's rampage last month.

The Louisville Metro police officer who was critically injured in the mass shooting at Old National Bank April 10 has been transferred to another hospital to treat pneumonia.

Nickolas Wilt is now being cared for at UofL Health Jewish Hospital, according to a Facebook post from the Louisville Metro Police Foundation. He is still listed in critical but stable condition and remains on a ventilator.

The foundation said Wilt developed pneumonia Tuesday, more than a week after he was shot by a gunman at the bank in downtown Louisville. The foundation said Saturday that doctors had trouble balancing Wilt’s body temperature and managing cranium pressure, but he was stabilizing.

Wilt is the only patient still hospitalized from the shooting, according to UofL Health. The other seven surviving patients were previously treated and discharged from the hospital.

“He remains in critical, but stable condition,” the Louisville Metro Police Department said in a tweet Monday. “The family sees and feels the love.”

Wilt graduated from the police academy March 31, and was only on his fourth shift when the shooting happened, officials said during a news conference previously. Wilt previously served as a firefighter and a dispatcher, according to the foundation.

His brother, Zack Wilt, is also in the LMPD academy.

The foundation is accepting donations to support Wilt and his family. Donations can be made on the Facebook post directly, through Venmo, or on the foundation’s website at saferlouisville.org.

All money raised will go directly to the family, according to the foundation.
