Modularis police car featuring Windows Azure

Microsoft introduces its new Microsoft-outfitted police vehicle that features Windows Azure, the Microsoft cloud computing platform used to build and host Web applications through Microsoft data centers.

This Microsoft-equipped car joins other manufacturers in the effort to deploy state-of-the-art mobile computing and other technologies in patrol vehicles to better serve officer on the road. Motorola, Raytheon and Rockwell Collins each offer similar in-car set ups.

  • According to Microsoft, equipment that was deployed in each computer-souped-up vehicle includes: Windows-7-powered MVP DVR Unit
  • 8-inch high-brightness touchscreen monitor
  • Two cameras
  • Wireless microphone
  • GPS
  • External Wi-Fi antenna

Also deployed were 10 MVP Repository systems (using SQL Server) used to upload, search, and manage recorded video and data. MVP is based on .NET Framework 4.0.

Microsoft Azure has been available since 2010.
