New Orleans Dispatcher Gets 9-1-1 Call from Daughter During Robbery

Nov. 7, 2022
“While I was taking the call, tears coming down my face, but I am still trying to do my job," said a veteran New Orleans dispatcher about her teen daughter's 9-1-1 call during an armed robbery.

A seasoned emergency dispatcher answered a call last month concerning a robbery.

That call came from the dispatcher’s own teenage daughter.

The Washington Post reports how New Orleans resident, Teri Clark, was on the job when she saw her 16-year-old daughter’s, Tenia’s, phone number pop up on the 9-1-1 dispatch screen.

The same Washington Post article continues to report how Clark proceeded to answer the call the same way she has over the past 24 years as a dispatcher—”New Orleans 9-1-1, what’s the location of the emergency?”—attempting to remain calm as Tenia informed her what was going on.

“Mama, can you please send an officer right now to McDonald’s?” asks Tenia via recording obtained by the newspaper.

The New York Post states how Tenia was working a shift at her job at the fast food chain when a woman entered with a gun, demanding all the employees get into a freezer.

“What broke me down was when my child said, ‘We’re in the freezer.’ And I said, The freezer?’” told Clark to WDSU. “While I was taking the call, tears coming down my face, but I am still trying to do my job.”

According to the same WDSU report, Clark managed to do her job successfully, and kept her daughter calm as officers made their way to the scene.

Yahoo details how whether an arrest was made has been undisclosed, but it has been confirmed that Tenia got out safely.
