An accused burglar who discovered his pickup truck missing called 911 to find out what happened to it, Colorado sheriff’s officials reported.
Deputies, who had earlier seized the truck as evidence, met the caller and arrested him, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said in a Friday, Jan. 31, news release.
On Wednesday, Jan. 29, deputies responded to reports of a man stealing lumber from a home under construction in Castle Rock, the sheriff’s office said.
When onlookers saw the man, they yelled at him and he went inside the home, the sheriff’s office said. Deputies looked for the man with a drone and K-9 but were unable to find him.
After they towed his pickup truck parked outside as evidence, the accused burglar called 911 at about 4:30 a.m. to ask about his vehicle, deputies said.
He told dispatchers his location and deputies arrested him on charges of burglary, theft, trespass and possession of drugs, the sheriff’s office said.
Castle Rock is about a 30-mile drive southeast from Denver.
