Phone Issues Plague Conn. Police Departments

Sept. 16, 2021
The Farmington, Stamford and Fairfield police departments were some of the law enforcement agencies around the state running into problems with incoming calls.

Police departments across Connecticut are experiencing problems with incoming calls.

The Farmington, Stamford and Fairfield police departments were some of those affected. The state Department of Public Health said it was also experiencing a phone outage that was “impacting other state agencies and businesses in Connecticut.”

The Fairfield and Farmington Police Department were experiencing difficulties with its non-emergency and business phone lines 5 p.m. Tuesday. Fairfield was able to restore their routine lines around 4:40 p.m. Wednesday afternoon.

“Phone service has been fully restored and all Town of Fairfield Departments including Police and Fire can now receive inbound phone calls on routine phone lines,” the department said Wednesday afternoon. “There may still be isolated residual issues with AT&T mobile phones. If you continue to experience issues contacting us, please call your mobile carrier.”

Farmington’s police department routine line still remains down.

“Frontier has been working on the issue overnight and they can’t provide a time when the phone lines will be repaired,” Farmington police said in a news release. “In the meantime, 9-1-1 is working and our temporary phone line 860-673-2525 is working for routine matters.”

Stamford police, on the other hand, said some residents may be experiencing difficulty contacting 911, due to a “significant AT&T outage.” Residents should instead call (203) 977-4444.
