With Exelis C4i’s recently enhanced “Communications On-The-Move” (C-OTM) unit, total radio and telephone interoperability anywhere, at anytime is no longer a concept of the past. Whether you’re at the office, on the road, or in the field, the C-OTM delivers instant cross-communication capabilities that are customizable, fitting a wide variety of end-user needs.
Exelis C4i has a strong commitment to client satisfaction. Along with making user-centric enhancements to their SwitchplusIP system, Exelis C4i also translated initial C-OTM customer feedback into brand-new unit improvements. Operation on either AC or DC power is a new feature that reinforces the kit’s versatility. The C-OTM can be plugged into a 12V accessory socket for power, and is an excellent alternative to mobile-command vehicles and for agencies on a smaller budget. Severe climates are no longer a problem, either. Recently added weatherproof external connectors for 4-radios and 7-network devices make the C-OTM ideal for adverse weather conditions and extreme work environments. But the best part of all: the C-OTM provides complete intercommunication capabilities and customizable functions—yet fits inside an aircraft overhead bin.
C4i’s Brad Kay described the C-OTM as “a flyaway kit, which is the core dispatch unit condensed into a lightweight, extreme duty case that does everything the desktop does.” Essentially, the case provides a quick, stand-alone command center by using existing communications equipment to connect or dial into the unit.
Multiple operators, radios and phones can communicate over any system as a standard feature. Accessory components, such as a Long Term Evolution (LTE) picocell communications interface, can be added to enhance the unit’s flexibility; meeting the needs of diverse industries and tasks beyond law enforcement. Natural disaster response, search & rescue, airports, railway & transportation, exploration, mining & oil, and active-shooter situations are just a few of the contexts the C-OTM can support with supplemental components and modifications.
The C-OTM utilizes Exelis C4i’s continuously upgraded SwitchplusIP operating system. Focusing on simplicity and user experience, the latest SwitchplusIP upgrade includes P25 integration, which allows for status updates, messaging, private/group calls, emergency alerts, and polling; improved SIP and audio call robustness across networks; an integrated phonebook that allows contact information search for thousands of entries based on a multitude of search functions—from zip code, to name, to job-title; wireless enabled Wi-Fi tablet operation, allowing a personal tablet PC to be used as a console for portable access anywhere.
