CLEVELAND – Akron firefighters rescued a man who was stuck in a chimney after he attempted to break into a behavioral facility on Saturday, police say.
Jabin Cuckler, 29, of Akron was in custody at the Summit County Jail. He is accused of breaking and entering and criminal trespassing, according to a report from Akron police.
Akron police were called at 3:15 p.m. to the Minority Behavioral Health Group for a report that a man was seen was on top of the roof trying to force his way into the closed building, according to the police report. The facility, located in the 700 block of East Archwood Avenue, provides mental health services for underserved groups.
Authorities initially did not see Cuckler on the roof. An officer then used a drone that spotted him in the chimney, the police report shows. Members from the city’s fire department spent three hours removing him and took him to a local hospital for an evaluation.
He initially told police that he climbed on the building’s roof because he was being shot at, according to the police report. He said he hid in the chimney to take cover, the filing indicates. As he did, he slid down, causing him to become stuck, the report says.
He was booked into the jail when he was discharged from the hospital.
Cuckler was arraigned Monday in Akron’s Municipal Court. He is due back in court on May 30, records show.
