TRAVIS COUNTY, Texas -- A Travis County Sheriff's deputy was killed in a crash while on duty Wednesday morning.
Deputy Christopher Korzilius was driving his unmarked patrol vehicle when it was struck by another vehicle that veered into his lane in the 7700 block of FM 2244 around 6:49 a.m., according to KVUE-TV.
The crash caused the 32-year-old deputy's department-issued Ford Escape to roll off the road. He pronounced dead at the scene.
Austin-Travis County EMS told the news station that another person involved in the crash was taken to a hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Korzilius joined the Travis County Sheriff's Office in June 2016 and spent most of his time working night shift patrol in eastern Travis CountyO. He was promoted to Senior Deputy two years after joining the agency and joined the VICE unit this January.
Korzilius was one of several honored earlier this month at the agency's annual awards ceremony. He and five other officers were awarded the Commendation Bar after responding to a "shots fired" call in July 2018. Korzilius also received several other awards and commendations.
The crash is currently being investigated by the Texas Department of Public Safety.
Funeral arrangements are pending.
