NEWINGTON, CT — An officer was injured in a hit-and-run after initiating a traffic stop on the Berlin Turnpike Wednesday, according to police.
Newington police said an officer initiated the stop around 9:30 p.m. at the drive-thru of Chick-fil-A after the vehicle previously had fled from several other stops within the past several days.
The motorist refused to stop and "intentionally drove towards a Newington police officer" before striking them, police said. Police said the officer sustained minor injuries.
The investigation is ongoing, police said, and more information was expected to "be released as it becomes available."
Police did not provide a description of the vehicle involved in the hit-and-run or say whether the officer had been transported to the hospital.
